Infineon Technologies has introduced a new PCI Express Gen 4 x4 add-on card reference design that supports USB 20 Gbps (USB 3.2 Gen 2x2) connectivity over passive 5-meter cables. This design integrates ASMedia's ASM4242 USB4 host controller with Infineon's EZ-PD CCG7 USB Power Delivery controller.
The reference design aims to overcome signal integrity and power challenges that have limited industrial adoption of USB 20 Gbps, especially in machine vision systems where cameras are often located far from the host PC. Reliable data transmission at this length helps system designers by reducing integration difficulties.
USB 20 Gbps doubles the bandwidth of previous USB generations but maintaining performance over longer cables has been difficult. Infineon's solution also supports up to 36 watts of power delivery, enhancing its suitability for industrial environments.
Advancing USB 20 Gbps Ecosystem
This development reflects Infineon's ongoing efforts to expand and mature the USB 20 Gbps ecosystem, facilitating broader industrial use of high-speed USB connectivity with robust power delivery.
